Prior to a recent journey to the Caribbean Island of Grenada I reached out to the twitter-sphere seeking advice about what to do and where to go. One of the greatest resources available on line is the twitter account and website of a company called Beach Bar Bums( https://twitter.com/BeachBarBums, http://beachbarbums.com/). I posed the question to Beach Bar Bums: Where are the good beach bars in Grenada? I was given the list of a few of his picks and Umbrellas Beach Bar in Grande Anse Beach was one of them. I added this to my itinerary and off to Grenada I went.
While there the G.F. and I meet another couple (Alex and Clark) staying at our resort who rented a car and offered to take us to Morne Rouge Beach (A.K.A. BBC beach, yours to figure out) for the afternoon. One of Beach Bar Bums other picks was located there, called Plywood Bar. Coincidentally this was also the location for SUP Grenada http://www.supgnd.com/ (stand up paddle board) which is ran by a fellow Canadian named Derek. I spoke with Derek before heading down and asked him if he wanted anything from Canada that he couldn't find down there. Guess what his request was?

Plywood bar happened to be closed that day because they were repainting the floors. After a few beers, half a 26'er of rum and a few hours later we decided to head to the beach next door, Grande Anse. Our new friends were raving about something called Carriacou Love Bites they had at a beach bar called Umbrellas there. The sun was still shining and happy hour was still an hour away so we decided to enjoy the beach for a while first.
Happy hour was upon us so we headed over to Umbrellas.
First order of business, a cold Carib Lager ($4 ec during happy hour) and some cocktails for the ladies (Creamsicle pictured) .
Umbrellas has a well stocked bar and offers a ton of cocktail choices. They also offer a $5 ec Westerhall rum special during happy hour and feature daily drink special at $10 ec.
Next up, appetizers. Umbrellas has about 10 options to choose from under the "light munchies" heading as well as platters for sharing. Clarke went right for the Carriacou Love Bites (Golden fried fish chunks served with a citrus dipping sauce). The G.F. and I decided to split on the Carib beer battered shrimp (tip: not for sharing for two reasons, one portion is small, two super tasty).
Needles to say we followed the shrimp with an order of sweet potato fries.
A complimentary happy hour bonus Umbrellas offers is a spectacular view of the setting sun.
A couple of interesting things occurred while we were here as well. First the selection of music being played was top 40 hits (the same stuff we left Canada to get away from). We asked the waitress if they could switch it up to some local Soca vibes. With in minutes the general manager was at our table addressing our concerns and moments latter sweet Soca music filled the air. The second thing that amazed me was a local fruit purveyor walked in from the beach and sold the bar fresh limes. Talk about fresh and #eatlocal.
If you find yourself at Grand Anse, Grenada I second both Beach Bar Bums and Clark's recommendation to hit up Umbrellas. By the time we left we no longer needed shade from the sun.
