If lobster is not your thing there are plenty of other options.
It seems like every radio station is giving away a trip to Antigua right now so Jay Eatz decided to give a little insight about where one should eat if they ever find themselves at Jolly Harbour in Antigua. This guy recommends Miracle's South Coast Restaurant and Bar located at Jolly Harbour, Valley Road, Main Road at the top of the hill before the main entrance to Jolly Harbour. If your staying near St. Mary's Parish go, go often, go for drinks, do lunch and dinner. Great spot for a cocktail or a cold beer and the food is amazing. I strongly recommend the lobster. Like the sign says it is the chef's special and will not disappoint. If you have never had Caribbean lobster you are in for a treat. It is nothing like Maritime lobster that you may be familiar with. Caribbean lobster is referred to as "warm water" lobster or sometimes "rock lobster". Unlike Maritime lobster they have no claws and all the meat is in the tail. They are sweeter and tenderer than the lobster we know. Miracle's serves up a killer one as well. Grilled not boiled = perfection. You get the choice of how your lobster is prepared, grilled, jerk, curry, BBQ or sauteed. The g.f. and I both went with the grilled jerk lobster. You also get the choice of two sides to go with your lobster. I went with the potato salad and rice and peas. The g.f. went with the potato salad and fries. Let me tell you that the potato salad was probably the best potato salad i have ever had in my life. You can have your choice of white rice, rice & peas, fried rice, yellow rice, macaroni pie, macaroni salad, steam vegetables, potato salad, green salad or coleslaw. If lobster is not your thing there are plenty of other options. The g.f opted to go for a Roti with rice and peas. Keep in mind the prices are all in East Caribbean dollar (EC) which one Canadian dollar will currently get you 2.25 EC (was 1 to 2.7 when the dollar was better). On our second visit to Miracle's I decided on the curry goat with fried rice and macaroni pie. I had no clue what macaroni pie was but let me tell you it is pretty darn good. Apparently it's a West Indies comfort food and is served cold, simply delicious. As for desert there is only one option (and why should there be more than one) KEY LIME PIE = OMG!!!!! A few more pics highlighting the atmosphere. Miracle's dining area is on a covered veranda and through the shutters inside is the bar area (which I also visited a few times during my stay at Jolly Harbour, good people there and got to mingle with a few locals). We both had it both times we went there. Definitely the best key lime pie I have ever had. I also recommend there icy drinks. I had a strawberry daiquiri, pina colada and the g.f. rocked a mango daiquiri. As for beer there is only one choice when in the Caribbean, Carib Lager (I did sit down to the table with a bud light traveler which was kosher). You can get it in Canada too but it taste better down there. Here is the link to Miracle's web site, http://www.miraclessouthcoast.com/ And where in Canada does this happen??? He/she was very friendly and made an excellent third wheel for a romantic dinner.
