So Jay Eatz works in Strathroy, Ontario Monday to Friday. On the ol' work fridge sits a little business card stuck by a magnet. It reads Banh Mi Shop in a large font and Vietnamese sandwiches in a slightly smaller font. A week goes by and this business card is glaring me down daily. I ask my fellow co-workers "any one ever try out this Banh Mi place?" I get two no's and whats that? I shrug it off and the weeks continue to roll on. Every day that card keeps eyeing me down, occasionally it falls off the fridge, I pick it up and put it back to eye me down some more. Interest gets the best of me and I decide to investigate this foreign place. I turn to my friend Google to give me a snap shoot of this mystical Banh Mi Shop. Google directs me to a Facebook page with over 600 likes. Intrigued I head to TripAdvisor to get their take on things and what do you know #2 rated restaurant in Strathroy. Now I'm sold and am going (downfall when all your co-workers are from out of town is no word of mouth referral).
I hop in the car and go. I should have seen this coming, but had a brain fart, the place is bumpin.

Parking lot is full and every seat in the place is full except two stools next to the till. I think these are there for those wanting take out. I wait my turn to order and realize I could have called it in (I recommend calling in your order if you are wanting take out, (519) 205-8800). To the stool I go. I wait but have to admit the service is relatively quick considering there were a half dozen orders in front of me I only waited 20 mins. I opted for the beef Banh Mi with a side order of spring rolls.
For those of you (like me before I Googled it) who don't know what a Banh Mi sandwiches is here goes. Banh Mi is a Vietnamese term for bread. The baguette was introduced to the country during the French Colonial period and in Vietnam this is usually found in a single serving size. A Banh Mi sandwich is made with this bread and is topped with meat (in Strathroy beef, chicken, pork, pulled pork, tofu or their amazing specialty sandwich the three little pigs Banh Mi candied bacon, grilled pork and pulled pork) and vegetables (in Strathroys lettuce, diakon radish, carrot slaw) and mayonnaise (home-aide in Strathroy).

The beef Banh Mi is my personal favourite (I have tried all the sandwiches although I have referenced my first visit throughout this review). The vegetables, beef and mayo meet in perfect harmony between the buns. There is a certain freshness found in the sandwich and although you would think it might be dense it is fresh and light. The beef is tender and is easily cut with the bite of your teeth (Jay Eatz hates when he bites into a sandwich and all the meat comes out at once with the bun being left behind).
As for the spring rolls, equally as fresh and another perfect marriage between filling and crisp fried exterior. They come with a side of sweet chili sauce.
My co-worker opted for the Friday special, red curry chicken over jasmine rice. She commented on the deliciousness of this dish coming to similar conclusions as Jay Eatz.
Conclusion: Jay Eatz say's go, go often but call ahead if you desire take out to save the wait. I am going to have to try the number one TripAdvisor pick in Strathroy to give a fair comparison but in my opinion so far is that the #1 should be the Banh Mi Shop. Here is their menu for your pleasure.
