So you've decided to have a BBQ and told your entire guests not to bring anything (pot luck may have been the way to go).  You have your menu planed which includes meat on the grill (needs your attention), a few appetizers (need to go out before the meal) and a multitude of side dishes (some you're making while juggling the BBQ).  You need that one dish that's a crowd pleaser, requires little babysitting and takes minimal prep time.  I recommend easy crock pot baked beans.

Ingredients:
  • 4 Cans brown beans (I used beans with maple syrup)
  • 1 lb Bacon, cooked and shredded
  • Grease from lb of bacon
  • 1 jar of BBQ sauce (I used Diana's Western Smokehouse

How to make it:
Cook 1 lb of bacon.  You can pan fry it or place on baking sheet and bake at 400 degrees for about 15 minutes.  Pan frying will require more attention than baking.

I used Maple Leaf bacon because it's made in Canada and I try to buy local, #MadeinCanadaMatters.  I forgot that the packing size of everything is changing and you have to specifically search for a pound of bacon these days so I ended up with a 375g package.  On a side note: Shame on you food producers of the world, don't trick us by changing the package size of products and pretending your giving us a good deal by introducing you product initially for cheap and then upping the price.  Like a 10 pack of hotdogs and 222ml cans of pop.

Open the cans of beans (I used four cans to make enough beans for about 20 people) and add them to the crock pot.  Shred bacon, add to crock pot.  Also add the grease from the bacon to the crock pot.

Next add the bottle of BBQ sauce.

Mix and set crock pot to low.  I set mine to 6 hours and about 4 hours in put it on the keep warm setting.  Everything is pre-cooked so the heating is really to infuse the flavours and heat the beans.  If you want to serve the beans sooner than I did; cook on high or 2 hours depending on your crock pot.  Remember to stir periodically during the cooking process.
Great easy dish that takes about 20 minutes of prep (15 minutes of this is cooking the bacon).  It does its own thing in the crock pot giving you time to concentrate on your guest and your other dishes.  Apparently it also makes a great topping for BBQ pork sandwich too.

Each to their own, enjoy!
